How To Care For Your Mobility Scooter Batteries

Mobility scooter battery life can vary quite drastically, but you can reasonably expect to get one year’s life out of them before they need replacing. With proper care, your mobility scooter batteries can last even longer than that.

Run down new batteries

When you first get your new mobility scooter batteries, it’s a good idea to charge them fully and then run them down a few times. This can increase the likelihood of your batteries working to their full capacity in future.

Avoid top-up charges

Establish a regular charging routine so that you always have a good idea of how much charge is left in your mobility scooter batteries. Small top-up charges are not a good idea as they interrupt charging and can have a negative effect on battery life. As a general rule, only charge your batteries when they need charging, and make sure they aren’t taken off until they are fully charged.

If you use your mobility scooter frequently throughout the day, charging overnight will probably be the most convenient option.

Don’t overcharge

If left charging for too long, your batteries can actually begin to lose their charge. Most mobility scooter batteries will take around 8 hours to reach full capacity, and establishing a charging routine means you will get into the habit of putting them on charge — and taking them off — at the same time each day.

Use the right charger

Make sure your batteries and charger are designed to work together. Using the wrong type of charger can reduce battery life, and in some cases can even be a fire hazard.

Check your warranty

Any good mobility scooter batteries will come with a warranty. We stock batteries with a no-quibble 12-month warranty, and a 24-month warranty on chargers.

If you have any questions about mobility scooter batteries or chargers, please send us a message and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
